Summary

  • I am the area manager for all the English Heritage sites in South Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. This includes: Brodsworth Hall and Gardens, Conisbrough Castle, Roche Abbey Roche Abbey, Thornton Abbey and Gatehouse Thornton Abbey & Gatehouse, St Peters Church, Barton-Upon-Humber.
  • Each of my five sites has an income and expenditure budget. I must look at these finance records daily and track progress, identify issues and authorize spending.
  • I have about 300 volunteers across my sites and in the busy season 100+ staff. I must report sickness, holidays, performance reviews, any personal issues affecting people's work, rota’s, pay and recruitment.

As a cluster manager, I have overall responsibility for five properties within the English Heritage charity. My work helps to preserve historical places for the future and for future generations. I enjoy working with the public and for a charity organisation who is putting back into the community and country and working for the greater good.

I am based in an office at my biggest site, Brodsworth Hall, but I regularly visit my other sites and work one day a week from home where I can complete online meetings, as WIFI and mobile phone reception can be a challenge when on site.

On site, as a manager I meet with my teams and look at site issues with them. To ensure the site functions well for visitors. My work is very varied as it includes retail, catering, volunteers, gardens, building issues, education, filming requests, and local community issues. Anything you might encounter on a day visit to an English Heritage location.

English Heritage and my five sites send and receive lots of emails so it is important that I am up to date with these, as they will include latest offers, price changes, new laws, and dealing with customer complaints.
