Summary

  • Apply theoretical knowledge to ‘real world’ engineering problems
  • A degree or equivalent qualification is an advantage
  • A varied management role requiring a flexible approach

The purpose of the design and development engineer role is to assist in all aspects of product development and production management. While the role requires specific technical skills such as the ability to use design programs such as AutoCAD, and the ability to carry out calculations, the most important skill required is the ability to apply technical knowledge to ‘real life’ engineering problems.

To be successful in this role, a real passion for boats is essential and relevant work experience is a must.  The role involves communicating with a wide range of people both within and outside the business including customers, suppliers and sub-contractors so the ability to confidently express your ideas is vital.  A flexible approach is required as the working hours can vary according to production requirements.

As well as formal education, skills gained from hobbies such as the ability to sail and drive a powerboat are a big advantage as the role involves new vessel testing / commissioning and customer sea trials.

This is an exciting job that offers great opportunities for career development and plenty of time on the water.
