Emma believes it is important to participate in a work experience placement as it provides you with the necessary social skills and requires you to communicate with different people. This all set Emma in good stead for when she embarked on her apprenticeship.
There are two ways of going into hairdressing. There is an apprenticeship route, or you can go to hairdressing college. Emma suggests an apprenticeship is preferrable because it is more hands on and you can achieve a lot more, more quickly and because you are seeing a lot more people you can learn quickly how to communicate effectively with them.
When Emma completed her apprenticeship, she opened her own business, called ‘The Hair Base’ at the age of nineteen.
Emma was very fortunate that she knew what she wanted to be a hairdresser at a very young age, so worked hard towards this goal.
Art was always Emma’s favourite subject in school and Emma spent lots of time doing extra art at school. She was very creative.
English, mathematics, and science are also needed for hairdressing and Emma thinks that it is an amazing career to be in.
