Summary

  • Whilst at school Holly knew she wanted to study an animal-based post-16 course, so her Careers Advisor recommended Eastern & Otley College in Norwich, for an animal management course, which included small, and farm animals.
  • Holly studied for two years, to gain a Diploma in Animal Management.
  • The exams Holly has completed as part of her apprenticeship have been challenging, but revision has been key.

Sectors

Holly wanted to go to university, and started to apply, but they required at least two weeks of work experience in a veterinary practice, so Holly emailed eighty veterinary practices in London to try to secure her work experience.

One veterinary practice responded to Holly. Once Holly had started her placement the head nurse said the practice was looking for an apprentice, so Holly took the offer.

Holy was inspired when she was younger to become a veterinary nurse, but as she learnt more about animals this desire grew. Speaking to her Careers Advisor, it helped Holly to pursue a pathway to a career working with animals. Holly was also supported by teachers at her school, who gave her the encouragement to pursue her dreams.

Holly’s advice to any student wishing to pursue a career in veterinary nursing is to keep going, even when times get tough, with support and patience you will get there.
