I am the Community and Education Team Leader at Drax, delivering our education strategy and community outreach programmes. Before this role I used my degree in Sports Coaching, to focus on community and education work at a sports foundation.
In my role at Drax I engage with a range of groups and individuals. These vary from VIP guests such as high profile business people and government officials to meeting and delivering to primary school children, engaging young people in STEM.
The energy sector has always been of interest to me. Mainly because of the diversity of the roles involved and the current climate emergency. To be part of a company like Drax who are working so hard to mitigate climate change is very appealing. One of the most satisfying aspects of my role, is the ability to inform young people about the power generation process. What it takes to turn the lights on at home is often taken for granted. Further to this, having the knowledge to inform the public what Drax is doing to mitigate climate change. Some people have a pre-conceived ideas of what happens here, but their opinions are often changed after their visit.
