Equality, Diversity and Inclusion manager
Gemma Conlin is an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Manager working for English Heritage. English Heritage is a registered charity and is one of the most important guardians of historic sites in England. English Heritage cares for over 400 historic buildings, monuments and sites spanning over 6,000 years of history.

- I speak to people who work or volunteer with English Heritage to understand what is happening with them and what needs improving on either equality, diversity, or inclusion.
- I advise and coach people on how we can be more inclusive be it in how they work, a project they are creating or a policy they are writing.
- I support people I manage or who approach me with the issues they are having at work, or volunteering and support them on how to move forwards.
Sectors
My role is to create a cultural change in English Heritage around equality, diversity, and inclusion. This cultural change affects the people who work and volunteer for us as well as the people who visit our sites, listen to our podcasts, and follow us on social media. I do this through advising and coaching people on topics around EDI as well as leading and supporting a team of three staff, one volunteer and 11 EDI network leads to go out and create this cultural change.
A key part of my role is that I must make evidence-based decisions based on qualitative and quantitative data which I first learnt about in my geography and science GCSE’s. When looking at this data, I must use logic to understand what the most important parts of the data are and how they help me to make decisions. This data can often relate to representation of different demographics in our staff, volunteers, and visitors.
