Sectors
As a Head Gardener, my role is to oversee the management and restoration of the historic gardens that come under my management. I spend a lot of time doing hands-on gardening, research, utilising old Ordnance Survey (OS) maps and archival photographs, to create period correct planting designs. When I plant areas, I only use plants that would have been available in the period the property was first built. I research not only, when plants were first introduced into the United Kingdom but the origin of plant. So, for example I am currently working on a Mediterranean planting scheme focusing on plants introduced in or before the Victorian era and where the plants originate from in the Mediterranean. My job uses a lot of science, as well as history, geography, English and maths.
