Steven, former student of Ormiston Meridian Academy, works at JCB as a weld fabricator.

Steven chose to go into engineering when he chose his GCSE options and based his choices on what would help him most in his future career. He was inspired to make this choice by how skilled and hands-on the job would be, as he is a very practical and hands-on person.

Steven has never doubted his career path; he has faced lots of challenges along the way like passing his GCSEs and passing the multiple stages of his apprenticeship interviews. Steven took part in a Young Engineer of the Year competition which is held by KMF; he did lots of research about the company and applied to complete his apprenticeship with them. At KMF he completed his NVQ Level 2 in Sheet Metal Fabrication, which included CNC machine work, folding and welding tig and meg. This apprenticeship gave him the tools, experience, and skills to work at JCB as a weld fabricator.

Steven’s advice to other OAT students:

  • Once you find something you love, just follow your dream, and that passion.
  • Do your research and don’t let anyone tell you not to follow your dream.
